Nothing to make a kid smile more than seeing a monkey in a cage, or a penguin that walks funny, or even a lion shaped ice cream stick. Those always seemed kind of freaky to me, but I was an odd kid and maybe they didn't scare all kids, just me. Eden knew that it was strange for him to be walking around in a zoo when he was close to being seventeen years old, especially since he wasn't carrying a kid under the age of five yelling to see the giraffes. Nevertheless, Eden didn't care what he looked like to the other people around here. He figured that he didn't have to be a parent or a little kid just to see animals, right? He liked animals just as much as a five year old, and he acted like a five year old very often so he might as well be one. "Penguins!" He cried, almost tripping over his untied converse to get to them. Hey, it's not my fault that penguins excited the poor kid. Anyways, Eden had spent all of the weekend either being a bartender [which isn't ALWAYS fun, especially when you have a really long shift] or doing schoolwork/studying. That doesn't equate to a fun two days off! So Eden had.. Ahem. Send your kids out for this next part, it might make them do the same thing.
Now that they're gone..
So Eden had lied to his mother, saying that he had a fever and promised that he would stay in bed all day doing schoolwork while his mother was out at work, and then he had gotten dressed and driven all the way to the zoo using his mother's other car. It was all worth it though, because in a span of two hours Eden had been able to see penguins [multiple times] along with lions and tigers, and there were pigs and goats and polar bears and- Ah. There were a lot of things that Eden enjoyed seeing. As he had kind of exhausted himself seeing all of those things, he decided that he needed a rest and some nourishment. "One lion 'sickle please." Eden projected over the tall counter of the ice cream stand. I think they sold things other than ice cream up there, but that's not the point. The point WAS that most people who came to the very spot Eden was at now were mmm... Below 4 feet high. Eden was a bit taller than that, maybe 5' 4, and even HE couldn't see above the counter at the person who was to serve him, or much of the menu, or even the cost of everything. What was the matter with this picture? "If I could just.. See what the cost is.." Eden managed, struggling to see over the counter at the price of his little lion soon to be down his throat. "Two dollars annnnnnnnnd.. Muck. Can you please just give me the price?" Eden wasn't aggravated before he went to get his lion, but this counter was a challenge. The man behind it told Eden the amount, Eden stood on a small rock and stretched as much as he could to give the man said amount, and then he stepped back after taking his lion. Finally he had it! All that work for his sugar coated friend had paid off. He felt like smiling at it for the next half hour, but that wouldn't be much fun and he wanted to eat it. Eden sat on the nearest bench and began to eat his ice cream, wondering if there was anyone currently in the zoo who he knew.. Or someone he was going to get to know. The only person Eden could think who would come to the zoo and find him would be Ivy, but he didn't know where she was today. Probably with her boyyyyfriend. Ugh, jealousy. Eden just wanted to be there for his friend, but didn't know how when he envied someone very close to her.. Eden, in anger, bit the lion's nose off.
