Character Information:
Character's Name: Eric Watters
Age: All of 16 years
Grade: 10th - Sophomore
Height: 5'11"
Hair color: Darkish brown, with a hint of... well, it's just brown.
Eye color: Brown
Other Family Members: His dad, Ryan Watters [40 years old].
History:
Son of a Son of a Sailor
Eric is a third-generation American, since his grandfather (recently departed) moved to New York from Rome about 70 years ago. Of course, Eric is proud of his Italian heritage, able to speak the language fluently (but not so fluently as English (= ) and write it almost immaculately. Eric's father, Ryan, lived a normal life until his wife died, which caused him to become unglued. Eric and his dad, seemingly on a whim, moved from New York to his current Wisconsin home the day after his freshman year of high school ended.
Aces Up
In New York, Eric was something of a hustler, employing somewhat unethical methods to win in card games. In poker games at a table, he seemed to always know what his opponents held, due in part to a method of dealing that ensured his opponents worthless cards, in part to his card counting skills, and in part to spectacular peripheral vision. His favorite trick was a watermarked deck, where each card shone just a bit differently depending on suit and rank. His favorite marks were newcomers, people who had never met Eric and had no clue what he could do.
Fight Club
Eric took up boxing and wrestling at an early age, and showed a somewhat limited prowess in either. Though he preferred to wrestle, he made a better boxer, with arms that were an inch or two longer than normal for his height. He won a boxing title at his local gym back in New York, though he lost it three months later. He and his rival exchanged the title almost every time they fought for years in brutal bloodbaths that ended usually not in knockout, but in stoppage when one fighter bled too much from the face.
School Daze
Eric is good at school. Not exceptionally smart, just intelligent and good at figuring out his teachers in order to maximise his grades. While math, sciences, English, and art all come naturally to him, history and the rote memorization it entails, is rather difficult, as he seems to lose facts and ideas upon taking a punch. Thus, his ability to find out what his teachers will test on ahead of time is a godsend, as he can memorize the probable questions and answers long enough to write them down on test day.
Personality (likes, dislikes, basically what are they like?)
First and Foremost
Eric is, on the surface, an angry child. At first glance, it would seem that he does not play well with others, and gets into the lion's share of fights, which he usually wins. Eric is ambidextrous, and very dextrous at that, able to write in different languages with either hand at the same time, able to juggle (seemingly absurdly) seven tennis balls at the same time, able to floor an unsuspecting opponent in a second with a six-punch flurry. Despite the amount of fights he gets into, however, Eric holds a disdain for fighting, as hitting people in the head can hurt. Eric is seldom seen wandering around without his mp3 player, which he listens to while he runs. He can be sarcastic, but is usually heartfelt and serious with his closest friends, staying playful and nonserious with those he knows less well and maintaining a callous image with those who he feels harbor a dislike towards him. Eric prefers to take out his aggression in the boxing ring or on the streets, running, though playing safety on the football team does it in a pinch for him.
Take the Long Way Home
Eric's home life, to word it succinctly, sucks. His mother passed away just a few years ago, and his dad turned to the booze shortly afterward. Eric tries to help his father, but the idealist in him enrages his drunk father, which often causes a fight... which Eric always wins. Eric hates the fact that his dad drinks himself to sleep at night, but loves his father, wanting to do almost anything in his power to get his dad to stop. Not that he hasn't exhausted every trick in his book, though; AA meetings fall through, therapists get blown off and the police mysteriously find no conclusive evidence of a drunkard, abusive father, despite Ryan's being drunk and holding a broken, bloody bottle when the police show up. Eric's saving grace at home is that his father does not drink when he's happy (such as with Eric's accomplishments) and is a great person to be around when he's not drunk. So, Eric tries his level best to please his dad, and that becomes his main motivation.
Listen to the Music -- All the Time
"What the people need / Is a way to make them smile./ It ain't so hard to do if you know how."
Eric loves listening to music. It's one of his many escapes from his home life. He goes a little older than most, starting in the 80's with Huey Lewis (and the News) and traveling through the 70's (with a veritable cascade of music - mostly rock) and finishing up in the 60's with the Doors. His favorite group at the moment is the Doobie Brothers, although this changes with the weather. He is seldom seen not listening to music away from class (or home).
See the Man With the Lonely Eyes
Eric lacks a friend to talk to. Not that he would if he could, though; he also lacks trust. He knows he should talk to someone about his home life. He wants a confidant to share all his secrets with, but couldn't seem to find one back home. So, few people that have not made "your mom" jokes know that his mother died a short while ago. Eric's never been good at talking to girls, as he can't come up with the right things to say to the ones he likes. It doesn't help that girls who tend to play hard to get come off (to Eric) as rude, and therefore get his callous treatment.
Appearance(what do they usually wear, any scars etc.)
Eric normally wears a solid color t-shirt no matter what. He is seldom seen shirtless (as he isn't the vain type) whether he is running or sitting in class. When he's working, he wears solid-colored shorts, either light grey, black, or red, that he tries to match with his top. When in class, he prefers blue jeans to hide his rather hirsuite legs (as he hates shaving them). He shaves every now and then, and keeps an amount of facial hair that rates from clean-shaven to just slightly overgrown, invoking comparisons to Jesus. His most distinguishing feature to his appearance, however, is the cut under his right eye and the matching, longer cut on his right cheek, the result of boxing southpaw for years.
