{ You can’t bare to look away }
Tsubai can usually be seen with his lightbrown hair, ruffled into a mass of bedhead hair. His hair is the main thing he takes pride in, making sure it looks absolutely perfect. His dark eyes are large and warm, welcoming and kind to look at. He has a fairly pale face, well pale for an Asian skintone. His lips are full and usually puckered when chasing Kiyo for a kiss. His attire usually consists of black clothing, but when he’s feeling down he will wear something bright to cheer himself up. Tsubai is tall for his age, not to mention his nationality. But it makes it all that much better because Kiyo can rest his head on his chest, and he likes that. He is slender and easy to wrap your arms around in an embrace. Tsubai is quite a pretty man.
{ Take a look into my past, you’ll be surprised what you find }
It’s difficult growing up in a poverty stricken family, especially when the Asian cultures are known for having a lot of pride. Tsubai was an outcast to the other children outside, they would often run away and hide from him, leaving him on his own to cry. So at a very young age, he became used to being alone. His father was Korean, he had come to live in Japan because of Tsubai’s mother, a beautiful woman who could have achieved great things without Shima. However, without the pair of them, he wouldn’t have been there to experience life. His father became a Samurai, but received no money for any of his doings as he was Korean and not Japanese.
At the age of eight, Tsubai’s mother fell very ill and eventually passed away, causing his father to become insane. He started to do silly things like lay leaves on his mother’s bed and say it would bring her back. After all, the family were nothing without Tamiki there. Eventually, Tsubai became very agitated with his father’s behaviour, and he decided he couldn’t live like that anymore. He got a job, which was nothing special since he was only a child, but it managed to give the two males some money. Only his father went to the local inn and wasted it away on drinking, so he stopped working, causing his father to throw him into the streets to live on his own.
In the same year, during the Judai Mitsuri, Tsubai had adjusted to living a life without expectations, only eating food that was occasionally offered to him. Only today, nobody had given him food, and as an eight year old boy he was very hungry. He decided to wander the town and find some food, accidently wandering into the crowds of the celebratory people, all surrounding a small boy around his age, and delicious looking peaches in his grasp. Tsubai followed him around a short while, and waited patiently for there to be only one remaining peach. When that time came, he raced through the remaining people and stopped at the feet of this young boy. Smiling, he kissed the boy on the cheek, as though a payment for what he was about to do, and he took the peach, sprinting back towards his outside home. Tsubai managed to lose the young boy, and he savoured that one peach as he began to walk, thinking of the boy as he ate it.
That one peach tasted better than he had imagined, and he just had to go back and look for the boy out of curiosity. Upon doing so, he discovered the boy was in a little trouble, and so he chased away the gang of boys that were intimidating him. He and the boy were then engaged in a conversation, discussing why he had stolen the peach. It was then that he was given the honour of knowing the boy’s name. Kiyo. It took a short while for them to become proper friends, and when they did, Tsubai was offered a job which he took in both politeness and admiration. He would finally get back the money his father stole from him.
On August the 11th, the following year, Tsubai returned home to his father, to give him his best wishes and tell him he was moving on in life. However, his father wasn’t there. He waited several hours, and when he returned he lashed out at Tsubai, seemingly jumpy and afraid. Tsubai enquired about this, and it was then he was told about the dreadful thing he had done. Tsubai fled and cried, running through streets looking for Kiyo. He wondered if he knew, and when he reached Kiyo’s home he hesitated and fled again, instead finding somewhere to stay awhile. He couldn’t bring himself to wish him a happy birthday, it wasn’t really happy at all. Especially not since Kiyo’s father had been murdered by Tsubai’s father.
Tsubai was slowly driving himself crazy knowing this secret and having to keep it from Kiyo. One night, when he was seventeen, he crept into Kiyo’s home to watch him sleep. He told him how much he loved him, bowed and left. The next day when he returned, Kiyo wasn’t there. He waited all day, until it was obvious he wasn’t there. He sent out searches for him, becoming worried and emotional that his lover wasn’t there. After days without Kiyo, he became lost and wandered round without sense of direction. But being one used to rejection and loneliness, he came to accept it. After a month, he couldn’t bear it any more in Japan, being burdened by his father and the loss of Kiyo. He emigrated to Wisconsin, oblivious to the fact that’s where his beloved Kiyo resided. He was able to get a job and an apartment, and generally live better than he had in Japan. Even though still alone, he grew to appreciate life better. It’s not often he goes out except to work, so he doesn’t really know Wisconsin that well.
