Maddie bought a ticket to the afternoon showing of some movie, knowing that she was to meet Maya there. Today would be their first day meeting each other after talking to each other until the morning of this day. Maddie knew that Maya was in her school, but she wasn't exactly sure who she was.
She walked around the ticket booth and saw the popcorn/soda/candy counter. Maddie licked her lips and smiled, biting her lip. She strutted over and stood in line. When it was her turn to order, she asked for a small popcorn, no salt & extra butter. She also order a small blue raspberry slushie. She paid for everything and then walked away. Maddie stood before the movie theatre door [there was only one movie playing] and waited for Maya to present herself.

Maya had finally made her preseance known, and although she was a little bit late, she was hoping Maddie could forgive the small mistake on her part. Today the pale teenager made her way through the door, a slight bounce in her step, and a slight smile on her face. This smile, was not of angelic porportions, oh no, far from that. It had a mischievious glint to it, as if what ever Maya was planning may get the both of them thrown out of the movie theatre. With this pleasant thought, Maya stepped over the threshold, quickly spotting Maddie among the mass of people. Her slim figure was clothed slightly stereotypically. Stereotypically emo that was. Unfortunately, Maya had declined to find any creativity on this sunny morning, and now wore a black tank top and skinny jeans. Creative yes? No. So, as she set off for the Maddie, slight apprehension about her, she was blandly unaware of others that would soon redirect Maya's attention, and cause her to miss the first couple minutes of the movie.
Fortunately, these fiends were to show themselves soon, and although quite oblivious at the moment, Maya soon sighted some oddly familiar faces. The crowds had started to disperse into theaters, and only Maddie and Maya were left out. "Mom!" Maya exclaimed, almost too shocked to speak. Yes, alas this was that foe that threatened the first two minutes of Bend it Like Beckham. This was the reason Maya was missing the movie, and she was obviously particularly irritable at this interruption. "Hi Maya, we thought we'd see a movie as well." Maya's mother said this motioning to the tall black haired woman standing next to her. Maya said nothing, simply grasping Maddie by the wrist and steering her into the movie theater, determinedly not looking back.

Maddie allowed herself to get dragged into the theater. She was slightly taken aback; she was usually the dominant one; she was usually the one who decided what to do when. But, she kind of liked the fact that they didn't have to stand outside of the room awkwardly while they tried to get to know each other. Instead, Maddie could now jump right into things. Before Maya could decide where they were to sit, Maddie pointed to a pair of seats slightly near the back and near the wall. She slipped her wrist from Maya's hand and tugged on her arm.
"This way," she said, making her way toward the seats. She sat down at the seat next to the wall and put her popcorn in the cup holder in front of her and her slushie in the holder next to her. She felt weird with food when Maya had none, but she had a thing for cinema food. She looked over at Maya and whispered, watching the person who had spoken to Maya, "Who the f*ck is that?"
In front of them, a mother turned around and gave Maddie a dirty look.

Maya made a rude gesture at the person who turned around, though she was pretty sure in the darkness of the theater, the actual contents of her gesture remained fairly indefinite. Then she turned back to Maddie, her voice a half whisper. "That is my mother," she said coolly, and sipped her drink with the same expression. She leaned back in the seat, and glanced at Maddie. She looked very different from what Maya had assumed.
Maya had assumed to see a scrawny sixteen year old, underfed and dirty looking. She had hardly expected the glamorous girl who now sat next to her eating her popcorn determinedly. Her features were glazed when she turned back to the movie screen. That first interaction had not been particularly good. They both obviously had dominating personalities and would have to find a way to work around that. But eventually, Maya hoped they would be able to be fast friends.

Maddie watched the women wander down the aisle, looking for a place to sit. "Gotcha," she said. She sat back in her chair, crossing her legs. She was sporting a cute, short black skirt that almost ruffled on the bottom. When she sat, the skirt barely reached her mid-thigh. Maddie began to regret her wardrobe. But, she shrugged it off and dealt with it.
"My mother sucks ass," she said in a small voice, more to herself than to Maya. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, wondering what her mother was doing right now. Probably planning another party... or planning a party to attend. Maddie rolled her eyes. She heard her cell phone ringing in her purse, playing a Dave Matthews song. She opened her purse and looked at who might be calling her; her mother. Of course. Maddie ignored it and waited until it was done ringing before she turned the phone off.
"So, did your mother follow you here?" she asked, leaning toward Maya.
